Shabbat-O-Rama
April 27 – 28
This year’s Shabbat-O-Rama offers something for just about
everyone. The celebration begins Friday evening and keeps going (with time out
to sleep) all the way to Saturday night. Feel free to drop-in; you don’t have
to come to everything. But we think this year’s program might just tempt you to
experience a full-length Shabbat.
We’ve got music; soul, Motown, gospel, folk, Israeli, and jazz.
We’ve got puppets. You can walk, roll, or stroll around the lake; or bicycle
with Rabbi Straus. Learn about ritual immersion or study midrash and poetry
about the land of Israel. We’ll launch a new Israeli fiction book group and get
a “sneak peek” at a brand new book about the Reform movement. Take a virtual
trip to Israel via video journal, or travel into your soul by moving your body
with the blessings for daily miracles. You can also just drop by to play board
games in Stern Hall. Pictionary anyone? Our fun, family-style Shabbat starts
with a casual Israeli buffet dinner in Stern Hall from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. (Families
with young children will want to come on the early side to be done in time for
Tot Shabbat.) To make your reservation, click here. Plan
to stay for Kiddush lunch following services on Saturday morning. We’ll wind up
the celebration with a wine reception and vegetarian potluck dinner at 6pm following Havdalah.
