Anti-Hunger / Anti-Poverty Projects
High Holydays Dinner Drive
In this annual event, congregants collect nutritious food for the Alameda County Food Bank, with whom we work in partnership on a number of hunger-related issues.  Last year, we collected over 13,896 pounds of food and raised $25,000.

Thanksgiving Turkey Drive
Together with Brotherhood and the Women of Temple Sinai, Social Action sponsors the annual Thanksgiving Turkey Drive.  Last year over $43,000 was raised for the Alameda Food Bank. Temple Sinai also recruited and trained several other congregations in Oakland and Alameda counties to run their own successful drives.

Holiday Food Drive for Greenleaf School
Please support the Temple’s food drive for Greenleaf School starting after Thanksgiving and running through December 15.  Bring your food to the marked bins at Temple Sinai Sanctuary and at Merritt Village.  Please click here for more information or contact Judy Zollman.

Bag Lunch Program

Bag lunches are delivered weekly to residents of the Henry Robinson Center in downtown Oakland. Hundreds of Midrasha and Religious School students prepare the lunches when school is in session. Parent volunteers shop for the groceries and deliver lunches to the center on Tuesday evenings. During vacations and holidays, lunches are prepared by Temple groups and by individual families from the congregation.
