Adult Education—Ongoing Weekly Classes
Torah Study: (Rotating Clergy)
Hybrid
Our robust Torah Study group meets every Saturday at 9:00am in-person and on Zoom. We have just begun a triennial reading that will be completed contiguously. Meaning, we will spend three weeks in a row on every single Torah portion to give us the time to do a more in-depth study. Each week Torah Study ends with a short D’var Torah on the weekly Torah portion presented by members of the group.
Join this gathering in person or via Zoom
No registration necessary.
The Prophets Study Group
Weekly at Noon on Wednesdays
Starts Wednesday, January 4, 2023
Journey with us through the adventure of the books of the Prophets! Explore the wisdom and folly of the Judges. Read the story of the rise and fall of the Israelite kings. Gain understanding through the insight of the prophets, as relevant to our society today as it was thousands of years ago. The Study Group will meet with Rabbi Mates-Muchin weekly at noon on Wednesdays beginning on January 4th. All sessions will be over Zoom. No previous study is required.

Continuing Prayerbook Hebrew for Adults (Class D)
Wednesdays 6:45 – 8:00pm. Session runs January 4 through March 1.
This continuing class will review the Amidah section of the Shabbat service and then focus on the Torah service, including rationale, Torah and Haftarah blessings, and selected portion excerpts. Students enrolling should be able to decode the Hebrew printed text, with or without understanding or ability to translate.
Continuing Beginners' Hebrew Class (Class E)
Mondays 6:30 – 7:45pm. Session runs February 6 through April 17.
Students can mostly decode the letters and vowels. After heavy review of decoding, they will be concentrating on reading comprehension of basic blessings and prayers, learning chants (as desired) for a few basic prayers, and eventually beginning to study the first rubric of the Shabbat service: the Shema and Its Blessings. Newcomers (even rusty ones) who can decode are welcome.
Modern Hebrew Conversation (Class F)
Tuesdays 5:00 – 6:15pm. Session runs February 28 through May 9.
Basic common interest conversational topics and structures: family, daily activities, descriptions and observations. Minimal grammar; Informal Q and A with lots of practice and useful vocabulary. Hebrew reading (decoding) is useful but not required.
New session will start February 28 and will be open for registration after February 14.
