Wise Aging Program
Embracing Reality: Preparing Ourselves to Live with Dementia
Presented by Rabbi Dayle Friedman

Almost nothing scares Americans more than the prospect of living with dementia, yet most of us will contend with cognitive loss, whether in our loved ones, or in ourselves. We will explore Jewish spiritual wisdom for coping with unwelcome experiences, and use it to cultivate our capacity to reframe—and maybe even befriend—forgetfulness.

Rabbi Dayle Friedman is a spiritual guide, social innovator, chaplain, and scholar who is passionate about bringing meaning and radiance to aging. She has trained rabbis and chaplains, accompanied frail elders, taught and guided individuals embarking upon their “third chapters.” Her most recent book is Jewish Wisdom for Growing Older: Finding Your Grit and Grace Beyond Midlife (Jewish Lights, 2015.)

She offers spiritual direction, spiritual care, and consulting on caregiving, dementia, and end-of-life care through Growing Older, her Philadelphia-based, national practice.

Rabbi Friedman was ordained by HUC-JIR, and earned Master’s degrees in Social Work and Jewish Communal Service from University of Southern California and HUC-LA.

Her work has been recognized with awards from the Forward, the American Society on Aging, and Neshama: Association of Jewish Chaplains.

Pre-registration is required for joining this presentation. Please register in advance for this program here.
