Dear Families,

As we all know, this is an unprecedented moment in time and it is incumbent upon all of us to do our part to be responsive to the needs of our community. Just as our local schools and organizations are taking measures to keep people safe and healthy, we are going to follow suit. Therefore, the preschool will be closed for the next three weeks through April 3rd. We had originally planned to be closed the week of April 6th for Spring Break, but as of this moment we will intend to be open the week of April 6th. On Wednesday, April 8th we will close at 3:30pm for the first night of Passover and be closed on Thursday, April 9th for the first day of Passover.

As the situation progresses, we will certainly monitor the recommendations of the county public health department and stay in close contact with you.

We recognize that this will be a challenging time for our families, and we want to support you through this time. In our staff meeting with the teachers today, we discussed ways that our early childhood staff will stay in touch with you by providing at-home activities and resources and virtual gatherings such as a storytelling or circle time so that we can continue to stay connected and maintain a strong sense of community.

While we are being asked to keep some physical distance from one another, be creative with ways to stay connected to each other whether it is celebrating Shabbat over FaceTime, sending letters and artwork to friends and family, or having a “virtual playdate”.

Please know that we are here for you and continue to stay in touch. If you have some ideas or suggestions for ways to stay connected, please let us know.

Wishing all of us a peaceful Shabbat.

Our Program

Temple Sinai David Pregerson Preschool is a Jewish, play-based preschool in Oakland serving children ages 2-5. We believe in growing mensches – good people. We nurture loving relationships among children, family, and staff. Our respect and honor (Kavod) of each individual forms the foundation for our inclusive community (Kehillah). Jewish values are at the core of our teaching and learning. As a community, we celebrate Jewish life through stories, music, cooking, Shabbat and holiday celebrations.

Our school day program is from 9:00am-1:00pm. Extended care is available in the morning from 8:00am-9:00am and in the afternoon, Club Shelanu from 1:00pm-3:30pm, and Aftercare from 3:30pm-6:00pm.

Morning Care: Children are welcomed into their classroom by a teacher in their age group. They have the opportunity to help the teacher ready the classroom for the day and do quiet activities.

School Day Program: Our school day involves inside and outside exploration, classroom projects and time for the class to come together as a community for the day and have circle time. Jewish values and best practices in early childhood are the core to our teaching and learning.

Club Shelanu/Late Care: Aftercare Program: Club Shelanu provides a rest time for the children followed by play time outside. In the Aftercare program the children enjoy snack time, classroom exploration, and projects in separate age groups. During late care, children gather outside once more in a mixed-age group.

Enrichment and Special Guests: Throughout the school year we have art, music, and movement enrichment opportunities for the children, as well as special guests to enhance the children's learning.
