Mechina and Yozma
Mechina & Yozma meets on Tuesdays 6:00 -8:00pm with dinner from 6:00-6:30pm.
Affectionately called "Jewsday," Mechina & Yozma are places where teens unplug from their busy lives and experience significant interactions panim el panim, face to face. Other obligations and homework are set aside for meaningful conversations, community building, and a lot of laughter. Through the support of their peers, educators, and clergy, teens feel connected and know they are part of a community who will support them as they navigate their teenage years.
Each Jewsday begins with a focus on community- we join together for dinner (teens favorites of course!) and start our learning with check-in... sharing our roses (highlights), thorns (lowlights), and buds (what we're looking forward to about the week). Teens reflect together and note their common experiences during this time, and it enables educators and fellow teens to know what each teen is bringing with them into the learning space. Each learning track aims to enhance each teen's evolving Jewish identity through interactive activities, courageous conversations, and thoughtful learning. We close each session with Siyyum, our closing circle, where we share evening prayers and reflect on our time together.
Weekly Tuesday Schedule:
6:00 Dinner (Panda, Pizza, Burgers, Chipotle, and more!)
6:30 Grade-level or Track-based Check-in and Learning
7:50 Siyyum
8:00 L'hitraot (See you next week!)

TLC (Teen Leadership Council)
The Teen Leadership Council (TLC) serves as leaders, conveners, and cheerleaders for teen programming (7th-12th grades) at Temple Sinai. In addition to being active participants in the program, TLC members help Rabbi Bressler and Dalya Azulai create and shape the program through taking active roles in program leadership and implementation and offering constructive feedback and ideas. If you are interested in becoming a part of TLC for the 2023-24 school year, please fill out this form.
College Credit Course
College Credit Course- Contemporary Jewish Ethics: NEW! This year, we will also be offering a college-credit course in Contemporary Jewish Ethics. In this class, students will explore Jewish ethics - both the context and time in which they were lived and practiced as well as the way we understand these ancient laws in our lives today. Over the course of the year, students will spend time exploring kashrut, Shabbat, medical ethics, property laws and social responsibility, starting with the original text, exploring what our ancient commentators thought about these laws and then assessing what these laws look like in modern day. The ultimate goal is for students to develop an understanding of these fundamental pieces of our tradition and determine how they might apply the underlying values to challenging ethical decisions in their own lives. Three college credits through American Jewish University are awarded for all who successfully meet the expectations of the course. Separate registration and payment ($1300) required. At least eight registrations are required for the course to happen. If fewer than eight teens sign up, you will be refunded your payment from AJU. Limited Scholarships available through AJU - sign up early! To register for Contemporary Jewish Ethics, please use this link.
